Rear End Clean Up
With the gearbox off the car, I could start cleaning up under its rear end. At first glance, the before pictures below did not look too concerning. You can see in the image below there have been a few repairs to the top and bottom of the backend of the sil on the passenger side.
After a quick blast with the wire wheel on the grinder, most of the dirt and rust came off. I applied some rust converter and let it sit until the rust spots changed the colour to purple.
On the sections that were ground back to metal, I used 2K epoxy to seal them, help with corrosion resistance, and act as a primer. To finish the rust protection, I used a white 2K polyurethane coating (sold as a truck bed sealer on Amazon) to get as close as possible to the OEM white underseal look underneath the car's back end.
