Rust Prevention
944's are now all suffering with corrosion to the sills.
The cavity between the inner sill and outer sill traps dampness and over time, corrosion takes hold.
A best inspection point is in the door shut the black plastic vent can be popped out to view down into the cavity between the inner and outer sill.
Other rust areas are around the rear hatch locks, lower edges of the arches, inside the boot both inside cavities of the rear wing next to arch.
The sills, however, are the main problem, together with the area in front of the rear wheels.
This is where the seatbelts mount, and the rear suspension, so it's MOT failure at best.
These areas had gone on mine on the passenger side and have been welded. The rear of the sills on both side had also been previously repaired, along with the bucket on the passenger side under the battery tray.
To help keep these spaces rust free, I injected Fluid Film Liquid A, which is an Anti-corrosive coating, lubricant and penetrant.
I was heavily inspired by this guy Greasy Fingers, who clearly loves his 911's and plans to keep them from rusting away from the inside.
To help with the application I bought the Pro Wax Injector kit which I can use with my compressor to blast in the Anti-corrosive coating at 60 psi. It has a Hook spray wand for spraying cavity wax in a fan pattern at 90 degrees.
The get to all the places needed to spray Fluid Film the front seat and the rear carpets where removed. The front plastic arches and the battery was also removed.
Behind the space saver there are three gromets that can be removed to spray the space behind the back panel.
The inner, inner sill can be accesses by pulling back the carpet and removing the three gromets
The bottom of the doors can be accessed via the door vents
The back of the front wings can be easily accessed and treated with the wheel liners removed.
While the wheel arch liners do provide some protection this area is known to rust from crap that gets in from the road. I did use the Fluid Film on these spots but after a day the oil had been socked up so I ended up using Por15 on these spots.
Clearing the body water drains also help to ensure the water drains outside of the car rather than into the car.
YouTuber RockCrawlingDude created a video detailing how to clean the water drain points. His 944 is an older one but its the same apart from the battery in his motor is in the front and mine is in the back
